Foundation History
Originally established in 1987 as the American Foundation for Urologic Disease (AFUD), the organization entered a new era of service in 2005 when it consolidated its programs with the American Urological Association and a new entity was created — the American Urological Association Foundation (AUA Foundation). Through this consolidation, we are able to integrate the activities and programs of research, patient/public education and patient advocacy through a Foundation that is part of its medical specialty organization. The AUA and its Foundation can now think and act as one by linking the resources and professional expertise of the AUA and its members to address the information and education needs of patients, caregivers and the public. We know of no other medical specialty organization that has taken this approach.
The AUA Foundation is the nation's leading urologic health charity that promotes research, education and advocacy. Our mission is to improve prevention, detection, treatment and ultimately, cure urologic diseases.
