Review Criteria & Reporting Requirements
Criteria for Review
Applicant
The Applicant’s achievements (as reflected by awards, honors, etc.) should indicate his or her sincere interest in urology research.
The Applicant’s stated career goals, and the letters of recommendation should provide indications of his or her commitment to pursuing urology disease research throughout his or her career.
Mentor
The Mentor should be an independent investigator with a track record of success in research publication, grant funding and development of trainees who have achieved academic success.
The Mentor’s letter of support should emphasize the Applicant’s interest in urology research and include a solid plan to utilize the Applicant during their summer fellowship. It should be very clear that the Applicant’s Mentor is strongly supportive of urology research, possesses expertise to provide sufficient scientific guidance and oversight.
Selection Procedure
Selections are based on the results of the review panel. Applications will be reviewed following the application deadline and applicants will be notified by mail no later than April 15, 2012. All applicants will be advised of the results. Results will not be given over the phone. Please wait for notification by mail.
All Arkansas Urologic Society Summer Medical Student Fellowship recipients must adhere to the following reporting requirements:
Final Report and Personal Statement
Within 30 days of the end of the fellowship period, the awardee shall submit a report electronically to the AUA Foundation Office of Research. The report should detail the awardee’s experience and how has the funding provided by AUA Foundation helped the awardee’s overall professional growth (i.e. career opportunities, new research focus).
Mentor Report
Under separate cover, the Mentor will submit a confidential statement evaluating the awardee’s performance and potential for success as an academic urologist.
