  • Dr. Natasha Kyprianou, PhD
    1994 - 1995 Research Scholar
    2008 AUA Foundation Distinguished Mentor
    Dr. Kyprianou is the James F. Hardymon Chair of Urologic Research at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. She is also a Professor of Surgery/Urology, Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and Professor of Toxicology.
  • Dr. Anthony Schaeffer
    Chairman and Herman L. Kretschmer Professor of Urology
    Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine
    Dr. Schaeffer has made major contributions to urologic research and has re-invigorated interest in basic science research as a strong advocate of physician-scientists and their needs.
  • Dr. Larry Lipshultz, MD
    1975 - 1977 Research Scholar
    Dr. Lipshultz was the first Research Scholar in the AUA Foundations 35 year Research Scholars Program which was initiated in 1975. He holds several appointments including: Professor, Scott Department of Urology; the Lester and Sue Smith Chair in Reproductive Medicine.
  • Dr. Stephen Zderic, MD
    1989 – 1990 Research Scholar
    2010 AUA Foundation John W. Duckett Award for Excellence in Pediatric Research
    Dr. Stephen Zderic is the John W. Duckett Endowed Chair in Pediatric Urology and is a Professor of Urology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr. Zderic received his B.S. from the University of California-Riverside and M.D. from UCLA.

Preparation of the Application Materials

  • Complete the online sections of the application
  • Download the Application Agreement Form.
  • Prepare the application package. It should include all documents on the Application Checklist on page 8 in the stated order, including:
    • Application Agreement Form with all necessary signatures.
    • Research Project Abstract (no longer than one page)
    • Student resume and background (research experience, interests, career goals) (two pages maximum)
    • Description of the research project(s) that candidate will be working on (two pages maximum)
    • Description of research facilities (one page maximum)
    • Letter of Support from mentor describing the mentoring program and commitment to applicant (one page maximum)
    • A current NIH-style biosketch of each mentor (four pages maximum per mentor)
  • Scan all materials in the above order into a single .pdf file.
  • Submit the application package electronically.

The application package must be SUBMITTED no later than Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 5:00 pm LOCAL TIME. Applicants should allow ample time for compiling and submitting materials, including the electronic upload process. Late submissions will not be considered.

Lay Language Statement and Photo for UrologyHealth.org

All Applicants are required to submit a short paragraph (5 - 6 sentences) lay language statement about their research project and headshot. The applicant thus gives permission for the information and his/her photo to be posted under the current AUA Foundation-supported research at www.UrologyHealth.org and in press releases and other promotional materials for the program. When taking the photo, please use the highest quality setting on the camera, at least 3 mega pixels.

Statements and photos are also due no later than March 1, 2012. The statement and photo should be submitted via e-mail to grants@auanet.org separate from the application package. This information will only be used for promotion purposes described above. These will not be shared with reviewers and will not impact the review process or decisions of the reviewers.
