Russell Scott, Jr., MD Urology Residency Research Award

General Application Instructions

Eligibility

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited urology resident program and willing to spend at least 80 percent of his or her total time on the research project. Deviation from this requirement will result in discontinuation of funding.

Sponsoring Institution

The sponsoring institution must be an accredited medical research institution or department of urology within the geographic boundaries of the AUA Sections. The institution must sponsor the candidate by guaranteeing adequate support, including responsibility for the adequacy of the environment, laboratory equipment, and supplies needed to perform the research. The sponsoring institution will be required to match the Foundation's $40,000 in total support by providing $40,000 in matching support for salary and/or requisite supplies and equipment to complete the research.

Scholarship Duration

The award will be for a period of one year.

Distribution of Funds

Payments in the amount of $20,000 each will be made on August 1 and February 1.

Multiple Applications from One Institution

The AUA Foundation strongly prefers not to fund multiple applications from the same research or educational institution during any single award cycle. However, if circumstances arise where no other option is available, the Foundation may consider funding more than one proposal from the same institution.

Project Termination and Change of Institution

Any personnel or location changes that occur after the award announcement or during the award period must be reported to and approved by the AUA Foundation.

Nondiscrimination

The AUA Foundation does not discriminate as to age, race, color, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, citizenship or national origin in the employment and promotion of staff or in the selection of participants in the Russell Scott, Jr., MD Urology Residency Research Award Program.

Electronic Application

The AUA Foundation requires applicants to register on our website. Applicants must link to the Russell Scott, Jr., MD Urology Residency Research Award to:

  • complete his/her applicant, institution, mentor and project information;
  • download an Application Agreement Form to be signed by the applicant, mentor and sponsoring institution represntative;
  • upload all materials and submit the complete application package.

 

Incomplete Applications

Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. All materials listed on the checklist found on page 10 must be included in order to be reviewed and considered for funding.

Certification of Human Subjects

If activities involving human subjects are planned during the proposed research, you must provide a letter of approval from your Institutional Review Board (IRB). You are not required to submit this letter of approval with your application. If you receive an AUA Foundation award, your award is contingent upon receipt by the AUA Foundation of a copy of the current IRB approval letter.

Certification of Vertebrate Animals

If activities involving vertebrate animals are planned during the research, you must submit a letter of approval by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). Letters of approval are not required at the time of application. If you receive an AUA Foundation award, your award is contingent upon receipt by the AUA Foundation of a copy of the current IACUC approval letter.
