  • Dr. Natasha Kyprianou, PhD
    1994 - 1995 Research Scholar
    2008 AUA Foundation Distinguished Mentor
    Dr. Kyprianou is the James F. Hardymon Chair of Urologic Research at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. She is also a Professor of Surgery/Urology, Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and Professor of Toxicology.
  • Dr. Anthony Schaeffer
    Chairman and Herman L. Kretschmer Professor of Urology
    Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine
    Dr. Schaeffer has made major contributions to urologic research and has re-invigorated interest in basic science research as a strong advocate of physician-scientists and their needs.
  • Dr. Larry Lipshultz, MD
    1975 - 1977 Research Scholar
    Dr. Lipshultz was the first Research Scholar in the AUA Foundations 35 year Research Scholars Program which was initiated in 1975. He holds several appointments including: Professor, Scott Department of Urology; the Lester and Sue Smith Chair in Reproductive Medicine.
  • Dr. Stephen Zderic, MD
    1989 – 1990 Research Scholar
    2010 AUA Foundation John W. Duckett Award for Excellence in Pediatric Research
    Dr. Stephen Zderic is the John W. Duckett Endowed Chair in Pediatric Urology and is a Professor of Urology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr. Zderic received his B.S. from the University of California-Riverside and M.D. from UCLA.

AUA Foundation Urology Research Success Award

Introduction

The preponderance of urologic research is funded through federal and state governments and the philanthropy of private foundations and non-profit organizations. The competition for these limited funds is extremely intense. Many projects are funded through a series of grants, thus young scientists and senior researchers may experience gaps in funding while awaiting peer review and/or approval for a new grant to support the next phase of research.

Part of the mission of the American Urological Association (AUA) Foundation is to expand and support research in urologic diseases. The AUA Foundation is proud to offer the AUA Foundation Urology Research Success Award. Each award provides up to $10,000 designed to assist urology researchers in continuing vital urology research efforts while awaiting new funding. Research supported by these awards ultimately will contribute to helping those who suffer from the effects of urological diseases.

Three Urology Research Success Awards will be available in 2011:

Funding provided by the Robert J. Krane, MD Urology Research Fund will support the Robert J. Krane, MD Urology Research Success Award ("the Krane Award"). The Krane Award will provide up to $10,000 for research in any area of urologic research. However, projects aligned with one or more of the research priorities described in the AUA Foundation's National Urology Research Agenda (NURA) which can be accessed here will be given preference.

Thanks to the generosity of Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Inc., there will be two Urology Research Success Awards in the area of prostate cancer research. Each award provides up to $10,000.
