AUA Foundation/Astellas Rising Star in Urology Research Award
 
To encourage young urology faculty to enter and remain in research careers, the American Urological Association Foundation (AUA Foundation), in partnership with Astellas Pharma US, Inc., developed the “Rising Star in Urology Award.” This program provides up to five years of supplemental salary support to career development awardees to ensure that their research salary compensation is competitive with other academic urology faculty.

Dr. Hollenbeck's research will use advanced methods for observational data analysis to identify "best practices" for the management of patients with bladder cancer. Ultimately, this work may translate into a standardized, evidence-based approach for bladder cancer management, including surveillance and intervention, thereby improving the quality of care provided to patients with bladder cancer.

Patient's Factors That Influence Racial/Ethnic Disparities in the Treatment of Nonmetastatic Clinically Localized Prostate Cancer

Dr. Underwood will survey a cross section of the U.S. population to determine the factors that influence men's treatment decision when diagnosed with non-metastatic prostate cancer. The goal of this project is contribute to the improvement of the decision-making process for men and their families and to better understand better why variations in exist in prostate cancer treatment in regards to race, age and regions of the country.
