The preponderance of urologic research is funded through federal and state governments and the philanthropy of private foundations and non-profit organizations. The competition for these limited funds is extremely intense. Many projects are funded through a series of grants, thus young scientists and senior researchers may experience gaps in funding while awaiting peer review and/or approval for a new grant to support the next phase of research.
Part of the mission of the American Urological Association (AUA) Foundation is to expand and support research in urologic diseases. To that end, the AUA Foundation offers Bridge Awards of up to $15,000 to assist AUA member investigators in continuing vital research efforts while awaiting new funding. Research supported by these awards ultimately will contribute to helping those who suffer from the effects of urological diseases.
