Happy New Year! 2017 was another exciting year for the Urology Care Foundation! Reaching people through Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram was a great way to help share stories of urology, health and education. In November, the Foundation highlighted a different bladder health theme and related resources each week ranging from Interstitial Cystitis and Neurogenic Bladder to Bedwetting and Nocturia. As part of the social media chatter during this awareness month, our "Urology 101" video was featured as an overview to describe urology in general and its relationship with bladder health.

Every April is Testicular Cancer Awareness Month. It's a time of year to raise extra awareness and promote facts about this common cancer in young men. In February, the Know Your Stats about Prostate Cancer team visited Houston — site of Super Bowl LI — to raise prostate cancer awareness with fans around the world. Spokesman Mike Haynes and Dr. Edward Schaeffer met with media outlets covering the big game to spread facts on this disease.

Peyronie’s Disease was the topic of our second most popular tweet. Peyronie’s Disease is when scar tissue forms under the skin of the penis. This scar tissue can cause the penis to bend or become indented during erections. It's estimated there are more than 200,000 cases in the U.S. each year.
