Prostate Cancer Info Center

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about prostate cancer and generate support for those affected by the deadly disease! Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men. About 248,000 men are told each year they have prostate cancer – that is one new case every 2.1 minutes – and every 15 minutes, someone dies from the disease.

The American Urological Association recommends men ages 55 to 69, with an average risk for prostate cancer, talk to their health care provider about whether prostate cancer testing is right for them. For men with higher odds of being diagnosed with prostate cancer, including African-American men or men with a family history of prostate cancer, consider talking to your health care provider as early as 40-54 years of age about the benefits and risks of testing.

The Urology Care Foundation is here to help you learn more about whether you are at risk for prostate cancer and when to talk to your doctor about whether prostate cancer screening is right for you. Our information center has free resources on the different types of prostate cancer, treatment options, life after prostate cancer and more.
