Baltimore, MD, June 20, 2023—The Urology Care Foundation (UCF), the world's leading nonprofit urological health foundation and official foundation of the American Urological Association (AUA), announces the creation of the Nawazish Ali Mian, MD Family Endowment for Pakistan. This fund will champion humanitarian work exclusively within the geographic area of Pakistan.
Harris M. Nagler, MD, Urology Care Foundation President, said, “We are so thankful for all that the Mian family has done to support our humanitarian efforts. Generous donations like theirs make it possible for the UCF to continue our worldwide efforts and can truly improve the healthcare in communities in need. The leadership and commitment of the Mian family is extraordinary and hopefully will lead the way for others.”
An annual $4,500 grant will be available for this endowment starting in 2024. This is the second grant supported by the Mian family; the UCF Humanitarian Endowment for Pakistan was announced in April 2023. With both grants, the goal is to support the advancement of urological care in underserved communities and/or research to advance patient access to education and care.
“This second grant that was created for the UCF is dedicated to my late father, Nawazish Ali Mian, DVM, who had a passion for humanitarian work,” said Dr. Badar Mian, urologist at Albany Medical Center and primary coordinator of donations to bring the endowment to fruition. “It’s becoming increasingly important to support efforts in areas like Pakistan, and we are so happy to have the support from our friends and family who helped make this endowment possible.”
The program is for practicing urologists and residents/fellow members who are sponsored by, and work in partnership with, a board-certified mentor. Candidates must highlight their connection with a recognized organization and project taking place in Pakistan. A program announcement describing the application requirements, review and selection process will be sent at the start of the application cycle.
